UTT / Holy Contract Theater Play T-Shirt – Womans Black

T-Shirt from the theatre play written and directed by Alfredo Brillembourg and Mandisi Sindo. Holy Contract is an interdisciplinary theatre production, conceived as the first step towards building a new theatre for Khayelitsha. The performance debuted at the Cape Town Fringe Festival in 2016, with shows at the Makukhanye Art Room — South Africa’s only “shack theatre” — and Cape Town’s City Hall.

Set against the backdrop of South Africa’s contemporary urban challenges, the play explores themes of social justice and identity politics. The script draws inspiration from the lyrics of Gil Scott-Heron — soul and jazz musician, and pioneering spoken-word performer. Dialogue shifts between Xhosa and English, as the protagonist, Khaya, navigates a dream-like reality.
